Convertible roof repair kits: how does it work?

A damaged hydraulic hose on your convertible roof does not always have to be completely replaced. With a hydraulic hose repair kit, you can easily replace a damaged section and keep the rest of the system. But what exactly is in such a kit, and how do you use it?

What's in a repair kit?

A typical repair kit contains:

• Two repair couplings : These couplings reconnect the cut hose sections.
• One Meter of Hydraulic Hose : This hose is compatible with factory hoses that have an inner diameter of 1.8mm or 2.0mm and an outer diameter of 4.5mm.

The materials provided are specifically designed to provide the same pressure and strength as the original factory parts.

Which vehicles is the set suitable for?

The repair kit is suitable for convertible roofs with hydraulic hoses with the following prints:

• AF1.8, DN1.8 : For hoses with an internal diameter of 1.8 mm.
• AF2.0, DN2.0 : For hoses with an inner diameter of 2.0 mm.

Please note that this kit is not suitable for specific models, such as the Saab 9-3 Cabriolet (1998-2003) or the VW Golf Cabrio (1994-2002). Always check that your hose meets the requirements before purchasing the kit.

How do you use the repair kit?

1. Inspect and measure the hose : Use a precision caliper to check the outside diameter of the hose (between 4.45 mm and 4.55 mm).
2. Cut the hose to size : Cut away the damaged section, but leave at least 19 mm of hose from the metal connector.
3. Attach the repair coupling : Place the coupling between the hose sections and ensure it is firmly attached.
4. Check the repair : Make sure the hose continues to move smoothly and does not make sharp bends that could interfere with the operation of the roof mechanism.

Important points to note

• The repair couplings are single use . Once the coupling is crimped, it cannot be reused.
• Make sure there is enough space to carry out the installation safely.
• After repair, test the system for leaks and check that the roof mechanism is functioning properly.
• Make sure your oil is at the right level by topping it up with our special hydraulic oil.
